The Picks

Never fear, spring is just around the corner and better shipping days for our domestic clients are ahead (assuming it stops snowing in Northeast someday). This has certainly been a challenging year for shipping (and probably shoveling for all of you who live there). Our hearts go out to those that have been most affected by the weather.

As always, delayed shipments need to be treated very different from regular shipments, especially when they have been subjected to extremely cold temperatures. Unlike overheated shipments, shipments that are too chilly can often be turned around. Granted, there can be stress related issues to contend with, but these are generally treatable. One of the biggest mistakes that is commonly made when these types of delays occur is too rapid of a temperature shift during acclimation. So take your time, open boxes in the dark, and let them come up to temp slowly.

Also, it is of utmost importance to take water quality parameters immediately upon arrival. You need the facts before you can adjust your acclimation procedure. If you find yourself in this predicament and are unsure of how to acclimate your animals, please dont hesitate to contact your Account Manager and we can help walk you through it.

From Australia, we just received a great shipment of Yellow Assessor Basslets (Assessor flavissimus). These make a great addition to most nano aquariums with their unusual habits and bright yellow coloration. They are well known for swimming upside down in the aquarium. For those of you looking for something a little more rare, we have a few Candycane femininus Wrasses (Anampses femininus) in stock from one of our best Short Supply Chains. Ask your Account Manager about these.

On the invert side of the house, we have some seriously beautiful Purple Ribbon Gorgonians (Pterogorgia sp.). These are brilliantly colored and in perfect shape. There is also some really amazing Orange Tube Anemones (Cerianthus sp.). If you want glowing LPS stuff, these are can't miss additions.
