Red Sea Fish are Back in Full Supply
With Ramadan ending, our supplies from the Red Sea are beginning to ramp up again. Among the fish coming in is the beautiful Purple Tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum). These relatives of the yellow tang are endemic to the Red Sea. They exhibit a deep purple coloration with a bright yellow tail and yellow fringes on the pectoral fins. When healthy the body of the tang can have a unique metallic sheen under certain lighting.
They are one of the more aggressive members of the Acanthuridae family and should be housed in an aquarium of 75 gallons or more. All in all the Purple Tang can be a great, hardy, and beautiful addition to the reef aquarium. With proper tank maintenance, design and feeding habits aquarists can easily have tremendous success with these beauties of the Red Sea.
