Photo Of the Week - Crosshatch Bluethroat Hybrid (Xanthichthys sp.)
Hybrid fish are some of the most interesting looking fish that can surely add a unique feel to aquariums. The Crosshatch Bluethroat Hybrid (Xanthichthys sp.) is no exception to the rule. In addition this is a fish that is not collected often, thus making it a rare find in aquariums. We often recommend this special and hardy fish to hobbyists with large aquariums for triggerfish of this genus can grow up to a foot in length. Although considered a reef safe fish keep in mind that it will eat motile inverts. Also, it's not a requirement to have a reef aquarium in order to keep this triggerfish. A tank with a few decorative rocks that recreate caves for it to seek refuge from the light and a sandy substrateis all that is needed for this fish to be happy. In general, care for it like you would any other Xanthichthys specimen. Provide it with several feedings of meaty frozen and dry foods throughout the day.
