Photo Of The Week - Pacific Crown Toby (Canthigaster axilogus)
The stunning and uncommonly seen Pacific Crown Toby (Canthigaster axilogus) made a short appearance in our livestock this week. It looks like the Valentine Toby (C. valentini) and its often misidentified with it, which is one reason it's not often seen. Not a lot is known of this puffer fish, but aquarium care should follow that of other puffer fish. We recommend puffer fish to intermediate and advance level hobbyists for puffer fish require extra attention when acclimating and handling, due to the possible existence of toxic slime in the water of the bag it comes in. To make a puffer fish feel at home, the new aquarium home should resemble a rocky reef environment with sandy substrate. It does best in an aquarium as the only fish for it is a predator and aggressive fish. Keep it in optimal health by feeding it a varied diet meaty live, frozen and dry foods.
