Photo Of The Week - Cortez Barrel Shrimp (Gnathophyllum panamense)
It's been a while since we shared an awesome looking shrimp like the Cortez Barrel Shrimp. This little guy is also known as the Spotted Bumblebee Shrimp, but it doesnt really matter what you call it as long as you know how to care for it. This shrimp is one of two in the Gnathophyllum genus that we have at Quality Marine. This shrimp can be found throughout the Gulf of Ecuador, but it has also seen in the Sea of Cortez, which is how it got its name. They have the tendency to reside on the undersides of cave rocks and their crevices, thus make sure you provide it an environment where it can seek refuge in. When feeding keep in mind that this is a nocturnal feeder that can adapt to eat frozen foods meaty foods. The Cortez Barrel Shrimp can live in a reef tank and with peaceful tank mates, but exercise caution because they are known to feed on echinoderms.
