Mexican Turbo Snails are Out of Stock
Mexican Turbo Snails are currently out of stock. Until the weather cools down we will not be bringing any more Turbos (usually late September) due to the heat related stresses they are subject to both during collection and transport. The ensuing weakened condition of the animal leads to a less than optimal specimen that experiences a much higher than normal mortality.

We will be stocking a number of alternative algae-eating snails during this period. Pictured to the right is the Caribbean Chestnut Turbo snail, these warm-water snails are excellent herbivores and readily attack most forms of filamentous algae. Here are some other snails that can be used as an alternative to the Mexican turbo:
  • Zebra Turbo
  • Margarite
  • Spiral Top, Black and White (Trochus sp.)
  • Conehead Algae Eater (Astraea)
  • Turban (Tectus sp.)
