Bob's Picks

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy we wish a speedy recovery to the millions of people that were impacted by this natural disaster. We would like to acknowledge the countless volunteers and public workers who are assisting in the restoration efforts.

As announced last week, the Quality Marine "What You See Is What You Get" system is up and running on our online ordering portal. We hope you find this page to be as exciting as we do. The items offered are in real time, meaning that once you purchase it, it won't be available on our site for others to view or purchase. We are regularly adding new items, so be sure to check back often. As we further refine the functionality of this page we would appreciate any feedback you could provide to your Customer Service Representative. We are working diligently with our vendors to provide some truly unique and outstanding specimens that are sure to knock your socks off.

We are packed to the brim with one of the deepest inventories we've had in quite some time, so it was very difficult trying to find pics this week that really stood out among our outstanding selection. Here's some of our favorites:

If you have any customers with reef tanks who are looking for a special group of fish, I wholeheartedly recommend our Pictilis Anthias (Pseudanthias pictilis). They come from our SSC in the Coral Sea and are in excellent health. The male Pictilis are stunning with splashes of pink, red, white, yellow, and purple. They do well when paired with a group of females , creating a harem. We recommend a 3 to 1 ratio of females to males.

Our Coral Sea SSC has also come through with another great batch of Laboute's Fairy Wrasses (Cirrhilabrus laboutei) . Like other members of the Cirrhilabrus genus, they are quite peaceful and will do well with other mild mannered fish, including other Cirrhilabrus species. They are very active fish that spend a lot of time swimming in the open through the water column.

One good way to increase sales is to try and encourage your fish-only customer to experiment with keeping corals. One could assume that the average reef aquarist spends more money on their aquarium than the average fish-only aquarist as they all of a sudden have the opportunity to put a lot more life inside of their tanks (not to mention equipment). One good way to do this is to start them off slowly with bullet-proof coral, like Mushrooms. Our cultured Blue Mushrooms (Actinodiscus sp.) not only are hardy, they are beautiful too and sure to give your customers the 'reefer bug'.

Last but not least, we have a killer selection of Acropora (Acropora sp.) in stock. From cultured to wild, purple to green, we've just about got it all. What's more is that we go to great lengths to ID down to species as well as color morphs so that you can 'Get What You Expect'. If you would rather leave it up to your sales rep, they will be more than happy to help you decide. So don't hesitate to give them a call and let them know what you are looking for.
