Bob's Picks

I have been having one of those weeks where every fish I look at gets my juices flowing, and I get the bug to set up another aquarium (in addition to the ones I already have at home). I think it is safe to assume that the majority of the people involved in this industry have a love for marine life and their beauty. What I find amusing in my case is that it wasnt even a fish, but a baby Hawksbill Turtle when they could still be imported, that grabbed my attention (now thats really showing my age). I am a bona fide fish geek and proud of it! As our industry evolved and the focus became live corals and invertebrates, I developed a whole new insight and appreciation into a realm that previously had been labeled impossible to keep. Through the dedication and passion of a group of pioneers, our ability to maintain these gems blossomed and a whole new aspect of the marine hobby took root. A 70s aquarium usually consisted of crushed coral and bleached coral heads, with an assortment of relatively hardy marine fishes. Take a look at a full blown reef aquarium of today; the amount of progress we have achieved in such a relatively short period of time is amazing. As we move forward, its not so much our ability to provide the proper husbandry for our marine charges, but our commitment to ensuring future generations have the opportunity to share in our enjoyment. More legislation is being enacted on a worldwide scale to lessen mans impact on the worlds coral reefs, and it is in the best interest of our hobby to embrace the concept of sustainability and managed harvest.

Now on to the picks...from our Short Supply Chain in the Maldives we have an excellent assortment of Adult Imperator Angels (Pomacanthus imperator). Theyre eating up a storm and their coloration is just plain awesome. Our MAC Certified SSC in Fiji sent us a robust batch of Pinstriped Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus) that are doing great. They are always a fine addition to that reef display. For those looking for an oddball we have one from Cebu that fits the bill. We have a limited number of Sea Moths (Eurypegasus draconis), in stock and ready to fly! Our Indonesian supply sent over a super colorful batch of Orange Spot Zoanthids, so make sure to have your CSR go hand pick a few for you. These colonies are super dense, and an excellent buy. Lastly we had another limited release of Reefhab Frags, this week so be sure to go over these with your sales rep.
