Photo Of The Week - Clown / Peacock Mantis Shrimp (Odontodactylus scyllarus)
The Clown or Peacock Mantis Shrimp is a hardy invert and without a doubt attractive due to its bold colors and personality. Although notoriously known for their powerful strike to break the glass of aquarium tank with the proper care it can be an excellent display. Housing in an acrylic aquarium will help prevent them from breaking through, but be aware that they can leave scratches in the acrylic. Mantis shrimp like burrow and hide in between the rocks in the wild. Thus, try providing a sandy substrate and live rocks for them to seek refuge in. They are an aggressive and active creature that will continue to entertain you. For additional information on how to care for this and other Mantis check out our link here.
