The Sander 'PWT' Venturi Series Protein Skimmers require only a water pump as a power source for the Protein Skimmer and its venturi. The 'PWT' Venturi Series has a larger diameter contact chamber which allows for greater flow rates without sacrificing contact time.
As with the air driven types, air/ozone is used to produce foaming waste products which accumulate in the collection cup mounted at the top of the skimmer. If the recommended flow rate and pressure to operate the Protein Skimmer and its venturi cannot be obtained, limewood airstones (supplied complete with mounting apparatus in all 'PWT' Venturi Series Protein Skimmers) can be used in place of or in addition to the venturi apparatus. The limewood airstones require approximately 100 liters per hour (100 cubic inches per minute) of air at a pressure of 1.5 psi.
