The Three Amigos of the Sea of Cortez Part 1: The Passer Angelfish

While Western Atlantic Pomacanthidae (Angelfish) are extremely trendy at the moment, we think aquarists would be amiss to not also consider one of the so called three amigo angelfish whose populations are concentrated in the Sea of Cortez, also known as the Gulf of California. One such species is the Passer or King angelfish which makes for a stunning display as both a juvenile and an adult, not something that can be said for all angels. They are resilient to the point of feistiness at times, even with their caretaker. Adult Passers however, generally are not trustworthy with sessile invertebrates, in particular Tridacnids, which makes it a risk to include them in reef aquaria.
