ACLS - Advanced Control Lighting System
The recently introduced ACLS is the most technologically advanced lighting system available for reef aquaria today. The ACLS is an electronic dimmer, patented by Sfiligoi, which can reproduce the sunset-sunrise effect by using HQI (double ended) lamps. ACLS allows gradual lighting up and darkening from 0 to 100% and vice versa of the lighting. The ACLS can be used to control and power any of the Sfiligoi light fixtures.
The benefits and advantages of ACLS system:
ACLS can reproduce the natural cycle of the sun, allowing the total photoperiod to mimic that of the seasons, meaning longer days in summer and shorter days in winter. The switch from dark to light is very gradual which eliminates shocking of the animals and invertebrates in the aquarium when the lights turn on.
The electronic dimmer keeps the light power extremely stable avoiding any flickering problems with exhausted lights. The total bulb duration increases 30-40% over other lighting systems.
After power loss, the ACLS cools down and re-fires the bulb 50% faster than other lighting ballasts.
The ACLS replicates the natural lighting cycles which often induce marine organisms to spawn. Invertebrates in particular are known for spawning in tune with the lunar cycle.

The “AUTO” option on the ACLS allows the user to automatically increase the duration of the photoperiod (daylight) as we approach the summer and consequently reduce it as winter approaches.
With two bulbs and two ACLS units the aquarium can have a gradual sunrise effect on the left and a sunset on the right or vise versa.
With ACLS you can avoid the shock of the increase of light when you replace almost exhausted lamps with new ones: the “NEW” function reduces the power of the new bulb and increases it gradually day by day until the full strength is achieved. This feature is extremely useful for corals which are sensitive to the increased intensity of new bulbs, it allows them to slowly acclimate to the new lighting and helps prevent bleaching.
With ACLS you can also adjust the bulb power and improve the lighting flow of some trade mark bulb (for example you can reduce the “green effect” of the Sylvania Aqua Arc 10.000 °K bulb).
The ACLS can also be programmed with longitude and latitude numbers which automatically configures the unit to the lighting pattern associated with that region. Using this feature, the lighting can replicate the photoperiods and moon cycles in the Caribbean, Great Barrier Reef, and most any other tropical location.
